What is the Post Study Work Visa (PSWV) Visa?
The Post Study Work Visa (PSWV) allows Indian students who have completed an eligible New Zealand qualification to stay and work in New Zealand for up to 3 years with open work rights — meaning you can work for any employer in any industry. Duration depends on qualification level and study duration. The PSWV is a key bridge between study and potential long-term residence in New Zealand.
Who is Eligible?

Have completed an eligible NZ qualification: Level 7 bachelor's degree or above studied full-time for at least 30 weeks; or Level 4–7 non-degree qualification on the approved list studied full-time for the required duration.

Apply within 3 months of student visa expiry (or 6 months for doctoral degrees; 12 months in certain qualifying circumstances).

Have held a valid student visa for the qualification being presented.

Have at least NZD 5,000 for living expenses.

Confirm Qualification Eligibility
Check at immigration.govt.nz that your NZ qualification is on the eligible list and was studied full-time in NZ for the minimum required duration.

Apply Online
Apply through Immigration Online at apply.immigration.govt.nz. Applications must be fully online. Apply within the required timeframe from your student visa expiry.

Gather & Upload Documents
Compile: NZ academic transcript, completion letter, proof of NZD 5,000 minimum funds, passport, and medical evidence if required.

Pay Fees
Pay NZD 1,670 total (NZD 320 + NZD 1,350) online.

Await Decision
INZ will assess your application and email you when a decision is made. Typically processed within 4–6 weeks.

Academic transcript and/or official graduation letter confirming completion of eligible NZ qualification
Evidence that the qualification was studied full-time in NZ for the required minimum duration
Proof of funds (NZD 5,000 minimum — bank statements or financial support evidence)

Police clearance from Regional Passport Office of India's Ministry of External Affairs (if required)
